Michael says, “Are you a fan of the ‘mockumentary’ workplace sitcom like Parks and Recs or The Office and someone who appreciates the roses and thorns that come when tending to the garden of education? Then you should start watching Abbott Elementary, now in its second season.

‘Abbott Elementary’ Gets Teachers

“I think the – why our intergenerational relationships feel different is because it’s based on experience, not viewpoints… It’s really sort of focused on this—different approaches to the job. We can only deal with our students. Our job is to be the best teacher we can for our students, and we cannot control what is happening around us.”

Brittani Nichols, Abbot Elementary writer

Abbott Elementary is a multi-award-winning comedy centered around an underfunded, predominantly black Philadelphia school district. The ABC/Hulu TV show stars creator and writer Quinta Brunson as bubby second-grade teacher Janine Teagues and explores the relationships among teachers, staff, and students. Listen to what two of the writers have to say about the show in an NPR podcast ‘Abbott Elementary’ gets teachers here, and watch a clip from a February 2023 episode here.
